Noordwijk a/Zee, 5 November 1900

Dearest Mary, According to my promise I send you this card. This afternoon I visited your mother. She was a little better, but had a rather violent head-ache, but happily no fever. Certainly you have heard the sad news of the death of Mrs. Hoog. Poor Miss Carp, now quite alone in the world, without any relation. From the cards which your mother had received of you I saw that you amuse yourself very well at Alkmaar. My compliments to Jo and be yourself. Kissed by your affectionate Josien.
